In 2023, the sickness rate in Germany reached a new high, with computer scientists being the least affected.

According to an analysis by DAK Gesundheit, employees in IT professions are either sick less frequently or continue to work from home more often despite being ill. Sick days in the sector were 3.7 per cent below average and were the lowest overall.

In contrast, absences in nursing and childcare were above average, in some cases more than seven per cent above the average. This is primarily due to the increased symptoms of illness in the immediate working environment to which nursing and care staff are exposed on a daily basis. This increases the risk of infection enormously.

In 2023, there were a total of 13 per cent more sickness notifications than in the previous year.
